The Essentials: What You and Your Employer Need to Know
For Employees
Salary Thresholds: Generally, you must earn €34,000+ per year. This can include your base salary and health insurance payments.
9-Month Rule: You are expected to stay with your first employer for at least 9 months before changing jobs.
Labour Market Needs Test: You must usually prove you've advertised the job in Ireland/EEA first.
Dependant Permits: Your spouse or dependants are not eligible for a Dependant Employment Permit and must apply for their own.
For Employers
The 50:50 Rule: Your company must have at least 50% EEA employees. This is waived for new start-ups with IDA/Enterprise Ireland support.
Be Registered & Trading: Your business must be a genuine entity, registered with Revenue and actively trading in Ireland.
